IT Maturity Index assessment – technology and process review
How well is your IT really managed? The IT Maturity Index measures the maturity of all 34 ITIL 4 practices against 652 criteria, shows where you are today and where to go next, and turns the result into a concrete action plan – with benefits that make sense to the board, too.
- Objective picture instead of impressions – assessed against consistent criteria by several respondents from IT and the business.
- One survey, several standards – the results are mapped to ITIL 4, ISO/IEC 20000, COBIT 2019 and IT4IT.
- An action plan, not just a score – for each area a target level, concrete steps and business benefits.

Who the assessment is for
- Management and CIOs who need an independent view of IT before deciding on budgets, reorganisation or outsourcing.
- IT departments preparing for certification or an audit – ISO/IEC 20000, ISO 27001 or NIS2 requirements.
- Organisations that want to improve IT systematically – with a measurable starting point and regular repeats that show progress.
What we assess
- 34 ITIL 4 practices – from strategy and architecture management through service desk, incidents and changes to security, risk and suppliers.
- 4 dimensions – information and technology, organisations and people, partners and suppliers, value streams and processes.
- 652 criteria, 86 critical success factors and 85 KPIs – linked to 12 strategic IT objectives that you rank by priority.
Besides ITIL 4, we map the results to ISO/IEC 20000, COBIT 2019, IT4IT, ISO 9001 and the four perspectives of the Balanced Scorecard. The assessment also covers demand management, which ITIL 4 does not have as a separate practice.
Maturity levels
| Level | Description | Missing for the next level |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Ad hoc, chaotic | – |
| 1 | Initial, intuitive | a systematic approach |
| 2 | Managed, systematic | standardisation across the organisation |
| 3 | Defined, on purpose | evaluation of the practice’s performance |
| 4 | Measured, quantitative | a continual improvement model |
| 5 | Improved, qualitative | – |
What you get
- Your current maturity level for every practice and every critical success factor – including the dimension that holds you back the most.
- Target level and action plan – for each area a concrete step up: introduce a process, issue rules and policies, start measuring performance, or set up a continual improvement model.
- Business benefits – what each improvement brings, described plainly, so it can be decided outside IT as well.
- A view by standard – the same results translated to ITIL 4, ISO/IEC 20000, COBIT 2019, IT4IT and the Balanced Scorecard.
- A starting point for your roadmap – priorities for 12–24 months based on your strategic objectives, with quarterly reviews of interim goals.
How we work
- Pre-assessment questionnaire – earlier maturity assessments, standards and regulations in place (ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 22301, NIS2, GDPR, TISAX, PCI DSS…), the number of certified people (ITIL, COBIT, TOGAF, PRINCE2, SAFe, PMI…) and the priorities of your strategic objectives.
- Choosing respondents – questions are split by role (CIO, security, architects, operations, databases, service desk…), so everyone answers only what they know.
- Filling in the questionnaire – online, on mobile too, with a minimum of clicks; a question can be passed on to a colleague who knows it better.
- Evaluation and report – current and target level, action plan and benefits; we go through the results with you in person.
- Repeated assessment – regular measurement shows how the plan is going and helps adjust priorities.
Frequently asked questions
Isn't a self-assessment enough?
We don’t recommend a self-assessment – without an independent view and a consistent reading of the criteria, every team tends to rate itself differently. We run the assessment so that the results are comparable across departments and between repeated measurements.
How is it different from other maturity assessments?
In depth (652 criteria across 34 practices) and in its unique mapping to several international standards at once – one assessment serves ITIL 4, ISO/IEC 20000, COBIT 2019 and IT4IT. If you have already had an assessment, we build on it in the pre-assessment questionnaire.
How much does it cost and how long does it take?
It depends on the size of the organisation, the number of respondents and the practices you want assessed. After an initial consultation we prepare a tailored offer.
How does it relate to the vCIO service?
The results are a natural basis for vCIO – virtual Chief Information Officer: we can carry out the action plan with you – from process changes and helpdesk set-up to ITIL training.
