Oracle 19c / 23ai upgrade
Older Oracle Database releases (11g, 12c, 18c) no longer receive standard support or security patches. Oracle Database 19c is the long-term release and a safe target for production systems; Oracle Database 23ai is the new long-term release with features such as AI Vector Search and JSON Relational Duality. We help you choose the right target and the way to get there.
Why upgrade now
- security and support – regular security fixes (Release Updates) and vendor support,
- performance and new features – a better optimiser, automatic indexing (EE), native JSON and, in 23ai, vector search for AI,
- multitenant architecture – the only supported architecture from 21c on (CDB/PDB); 19c lets you run up to three PDBs without an extra licence,
- a path to the cloud – the same database runs on-premises, on Oracle Database Appliance, in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and in Microsoft Azure (Oracle Database@Azure).
How we work
- Assessment – inventory of databases, versions, editions and licences; application compatibility and dependencies.
- Design – target version and upgrade method (AutoUpgrade, Data Pump, transportable tablespaces), move to multitenant, backup and fallback plan.
- Testing – trial upgrade on a copy of production, performance comparison and application testing with its vendor.
- Upgrade – carried out in an agreed window with minimal downtime, using Data Guard or Dbvisit Standby where needed.
- Operations – post-upgrade tuning, regular Release Updates and long-term support.
An upgrade is a good moment to rethink the infrastructure as well – your own hardware, Oracle Database Appliance or a migration to the cloud.
