vCIO – virtual Chief Information Officer
The role of IT is changing: instead of just running the technology, it is expected to cut costs and, above all, to understand what the business needs. A virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO) brings you the experience of an IT manager and a team of specialists behind them – without hiring a full-time CIO.
- IT as a business partner – we start from the current and future needs of the company, not from technology itself.
- A proven method – structured interviews with management and IT managers and prepared questionnaires show how the company, its operations and costs really work.
- A team, not one person – behind the vCIO there are specialists in each area with hands-on experience from earlier projects.

Ways to work together
- Shadowing selected IT roles – for larger companies that want an independent view or a stand-in.
- Extending IT management – for mid-sized companies that lack capacity or specific expertise.
- Outsourcing IT management – for smaller companies that don’t need a full-time CIO.
How we help
- IT strategy and investment – feasibility studies, return on investment (ROI) analysis and lower total cost of ownership (TCO) for hardware, software, printing and telecoms.
- Project and development management – representing you in managing the delivery of IT services and systems, agile management (SCRUM), IT architecture management (TOGAF) and software development process reviews.
- IT processes and governance – management, governance and security models (ITIL, COBIT), process, security and operational audits; we measure IT maturity with the IT Maturity Index assessment.
- Licensing and purchasing – the right licence purchasing model and an independent Oracle and Microsoft licence review.
- Cloud and infrastructure – infrastructure change design, virtualisation, the move to cloud and SaaS (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace) and cloud migration.
- Business continuity – Business Continuity Plan, backup and recovery of data and complete IT services (Disaster Recovery Plan).

How we work
- Initial meeting – what the business expects from IT and what role the vCIO should play: shadowing, extending, or running IT management.
- Mapping the current state – interviews with management, department heads and IT managers, questionnaires on operations and costs, optionally the IT Maturity Index.
- Strategy and plan – priorities, budget and a roadmap with measurable goals that make sense to the board.
- Delivery and ongoing management – managing projects and suppliers, regular reporting and plan updates as the company evolves.

Frequently asked questions
How is a vCIO different from an IT administrator or an IT supplier?
Administrators and suppliers run operations. A vCIO decides where IT should go, what it should cost and how to measure the results – and keeps an eye on suppliers, including existing ones. We can take over operations too if you wish (infrastructure support).
How much involvement do we need?
Anything from a one-off consultation or audit to a regular role in IT management – we agree the scope and frequency based on the size of your company and what you need.
